Marion, IL — November 11, 2025 — Reynolds Roofing, Exteriors & Coatings today announced the recipients of its Veterans Roof Giveaway: Ms. McLaughlin, who served  from 1980-1990 as a US Army MP and Mr. Woolard who served in the US Army from 1959-1961 as a Radio Relay Instructor.  Both honorees were nominated by peers, neighbors, and community members who shared stories of their service and ongoing contributions at home.

“We were overwhelmed with the number of nominations and the depth of each veteran’s story,” said Dave Reynolds, owner of Reynolds Roofing, Exteriors & Coatings. “Both Ms. McLaughlin and Mr. Woolard exemplify the courage, sacrifice, and quiet leadership that make our communities stronger. It’s our privilege—alongside our partners Roofers Mart and CertainTeed Shingles—to provide them with the peace of mind that comes with a secure, high-quality roof.”

The Veterans Roof Giveaway was created to honor local veterans by eliminating a critical home-maintenance burden—at no cost to the recipient. Materials for the projects will be provided in partnership with Roofers Mart and CertainTeed Shingles, ensuring each roof is built to industry-leading standards for durability and weather protection.

Installation scheduling and on-site details will be coordinated directly with the recipients. Reynolds Roofing will share progress updates and completed project photos on its social channels following installation.

About the Recipients

  • Ms. McLaughlin. — Served ten years in the US Army (1980-1990). Recognized by her community for her service, work ethic, and continued commitment to helping others.

  • What nominators said about Ms. McLaughlin:

    • “She is in desperate need of a new roof and has been diagnosed with cancer.  Not only did she serve 10 years in the Army (Germany) but also 1 1/2 years in the Army Reserve. Her husband was also a veteran and passed 5 years ago. Her last roofing was in 2004.”

    • “She needs a new roof. She is fighting cancer and has storm damage to her 20 year old roof. She served 2 years in Afghanistan.  She lost her husband (also a veteran) to cancer 4yrs ago after several years of treatment and large medical bills. Then, she was diagnosed with… cancer in 2024. She has not been financially able to replace her roof. Her roof last had some patching done in 2004 when a windstorm pulled out her satellite dish…”

    • Ms. McLaughlin “has a great love for nature, a nurturing spirit and the heart of a lion.”

    • “She deserves a new roof because she has given so much of herself to the community… in all of the years that she had resided here.  Before her illness during the holidays she baked personalized culinary edible arts for each business in the entire town.  She also made springtime handcrafted items to gift nursing home patients, all for free.”

    • So, as a veteran myself, helping to care for her everyday, and really listening to her adventures, memories, ideas and epiphanies, I am awe struck and inspired by her.  I have learned so much from this woman and still have so much to learn and so, if I can help her in anyway that I can as much as she has helped me I am nominating Ms. Mclaughlin…”

  • Mr. Woolard — Served two years in the US Army (1959-1961). Nominated by peers for his enduring resilience, humility, and dedication to his Church.

  • What nominators said about Mr. Woolard:

    • Mr. Woolard “Is an Army vet that cares deeply for God and country. He is an elderly man who lives alone and has a failing roof and doesn’t have the means to roof his home himself. He would give you the shirt off his back, despite being in a wheelchair and not having much. A new roof would be a huge blessing for Him. Thank you for your consideration.

    • Mr. Woolard “is a 90-year-old veteran who proudly served his country and now faces one of life’s toughest battles — a leaking roof. Wheelchair-bound and living on a fixed income, he does his best to stay positive despite water damage threatening his home. He never complains, but those who know him see how much he deserves some help. Winning a new roof from Reynolds Roofing would give this proud veteran safety, comfort, and peace of mind in the home he loves.

    • I know Mr. Woolard through Second Baptist Church.  His roof has been leaking, and he is not able to do the repairs himself because he is 90 years old.  He is also not able to afford a new roof, which is why this program is a perfect opportunity for him.  I know people have tried to help him as much as possible, but anything done at this point is only a Band-Aid.
